    The invention of the printing press took place around this time. As as England began the Industrial Revolution, this had a big effect on the development of the spoken language. Because of the many new discoveries and inventions the English language now lacked words, and many new were added along the way

  • Shakespeare

    Shakespeare's work was admired and celebrated in this period, which is often reffered to as 'the Elizabethan era'. He brought new words and played an important part in shaping the English language. Today Shakespeare's work is still used in many studies and preformed all over the world
  • First Dictionary

    The first 'proper' dictionary of the English language was published in this period and in the following years, up untill our time, many dictionaries was yet to come
  • Independence

    America gained independence from Britain this year, which sligthly affected the evolution of the English language. Some changes were made to make the American English stand out from the British Enlish. Those moderate changes still excist today
  • Jane Austen

    Many word acquired a new or different meaning. Jane Austen's way of writing is a great example of that
  • A global language

    Todfay English is a world-wide spoken language and a very large number of people know and learn how to speak English. The increasing globalization has certainly helped the English language along on it's way and therefore English is considered the universal language for business, international communications, entertainment, tourism, trade and technology.
