  • Virginia Declaration of Rights

    This was a document written by Thomas Jefferson talking about man's unenumerated rights. This was the foundation for the bill of rights

    John Smith ran for 2nd president of the us. It was a win for the federalist party and was the first time the electoral voting system was used
  • Ratification of the Articles of Confederation

    The ratification of the articles of confederation was by 9 of the thirteen original colonies. It was sent to all 13 colonies by congress and was written by Dickinson. This was significant because it was the first form of government in the independent US. It was unsuccessful because congress had no real power.
  • Treaty of Paris (1783)

    This treaty was negotiated between US and Britain and ended the revolutionary war. It was important because it officially recognized America's independence from England
  • Land of Ordinance of 1785

    This was when congress would allow people to buy farmland in the west. This took land from natives and laid the foundation for westward expansion
  • Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom

    THomas Jefferson proposed this bill in Virginia. It talks about the need for religious freedom and seperation of church and state. This was incorporated into the constitution.

    This took place in Philidelphia and discussed revisions to the articles of confederation. It made decisions on important issues like slave representation and congress.

    This treaty was made by the congress of the confederation and created new westward territories. This made the new system for westward expansion where they made new territories instead of expanding the old ones.

    The thirteen colonies had representaatives sign the contstitution. This created a central government with congress that had legitimate power.
  • George Washington Inauguration

    In New York, George Washington was sworn into presidency. This laid the premise for the traditional presidential process and gave Washington legitimate power.

    This treaty was written by Hamilton and negotiated by John Jay. It withdrew british troops from northwest america. Despite its negative public view, it avoided a war that could have destroyed the young US
  • Treaty of Greenville

    This was a negotiation in ohio between us and the natives after losing the battle of fallen timbers. It limited the amount of land the us could have towards the west
  • Pinckney Treaty

    This was signed in San Lorenzo and showed the intention of friendship between spain and the us. This was one of the first allies of the us
  • Washington Farewwell

    This was washingtons retirement speech from being president given in Philidelphia. It established the two term tradition and gave advice for the future of the us
  • XYZ Affair

    The 3 representatives from france wanted help in the revolution but the us refused because they were under new government. This created a harsher relationship between the us and frnace. They sais they would pay as much as they needed for war but would not pay for bribery.

    These were signed by Adams and made it harder for immigrants to vote and allowed them to be deported. It was the start of stricter immigration laws in a land founded by immigrants
