    The Human Genome Project is a genetic blueprint for all human beings. This is especially important in helping scientist understand and cure diseases and viruses. In order to achieve this milestone Celera Genomics and Oracle created a super computing facility with 800 interconnected Compaq Alpha-based computer systems, each capable of performing more than 250 billion sequence comparisons per hour. Without this technological advancement the research would still be ongoing.

    Graphene is discovered and produced
    In 2004 Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov from The University of Manchester discovered Graphene. Graphene is essentially an extremely thin layer of graphite - pencil lead. Graphene's potential is unlimited in technology. It is currently being used as a heat sink paste in cell phones. It has also been used to further distill vodka to higher alcohol concentrations, in a room-temperature laboratory, without the application of heat or vacuum as used in traditional distillation methods.

    Mark Zucherberg created Facebook out of his Harvard dormitory. Facebook has enhanced the way we communicate and access worldwide information. It has enabled people to stay connected over long distances and create new online relationships. According to Facebook statistics there are 2.74 billion worldwide users every month.

    YouTube is launched and first video is uploaded
    On April 23rd 2005 the first YouTube video was uploaded by one of its co-founders. YouTube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. YouTube has become a very useful tool, in society, by allowing people to upload and share videos to a world wide audience, thus increasing connectivity and the transfer of information.

    On June 29th, 2007 the first iPhone was released in the United States. It was considered the first smartphone because it used a touchscreen instead of physical buttons to navigate through the apps. Soon after all the other major cell phone manufacturers followed suite with their own smartphones.
