Vivian String was born in 1948 in Edenborn, PA on March 16, She was rised by her parents growing up in the small town of Edenborn, Pa.

Stringer holds the distinction of being the first coach in NCAA history to lead three different women's programs to the NCAA Final Four: Rutgers in 2000 and 2007, the University of Iowa in 1993, and Cheyney State College in 1982.

She was honored as the Naismirh College Coach of the year for women's Basketball, and also is a member of the women's basketball hall of fame.
