    The Trung sisters launched a movement to conquer the Chinese after 1,000 years of being under their rule. Although they were not successful, this inspired many other movements to tstand up to the Chinese.

    Rice Farmers in Vietnam improve irrigation techniques. Because of this farmers prospered and were able to purchase more fertile land.

    Ly Dynasty

    Ly Cong Uan was an orphan raised by Buddhist monks. He was said to have great leadersip, skills and knowledge. After the current king at the time died, the Buddhist monks influenced people to place him on the throne.

    The Prosperity of Buddhism
    Ly Con Uan, and his son Ly Phat Ma focused mainly on keeping the people happy, but most importantly the gods. Advisors of the Ly's influenced them to focus on their religion and that would make the people happy. During the Ly dynasty Buddhism prospered, due to strong leaders with good morals.

    Le Loi, a scholar- official coming from a wealthy family, served the Chinese, until Le Loi was tired of being opressed by the Chinese rule. He started growing an anti- Chinese army and they defeated the Chinese in 1428, which was the start of the Le dynasty

    Le Thanh Tong

    Le Thanh Tong
    Le Thanh Tong, decendant of Le Loi, drastically changed and organized Vietnam after the Chinese. Le Thanh Tong reorganized the bueraucratic structure, ordered that a cencus be taken every six years, and helped peasant farmers.

    Three brothers who grew tired of the Nguyen family, rebelled against them. They demanded social justice and redistribution of land to poor farmers.

    A bad time for Vietnam. The French imposed many taxes on food, salt, and many more. The French made it very difficult for farmers and left 57 percent of farmers landless.

    War fought between North, and South Vietnam, that involved many other countries. There were many deaths, this was a long and grousome war.

    Major flooding killed over 300 people, and over 200 million dollars of repairs. Also Vietnam is still struck by severe poverty and hunger.
