    Prohibition begins (18 amendment)
    The 18 amendment was the amendment that ended alcohol in America. Many women were complaining that their husbands were getting drink and then coming home and beating them. This is what forced congress to make this move in 1917.
  • Prohibition ends (21 amendment)

    Prohibition ends (21 amendment)
    Almost a year or two after it had been accepted as an amendment it was later overturned by congress. They believed that it was at a greater risk now that it was illegal. People were selling it like drug dealers are today. Prohibition ended with the 21st amendment.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    Teapot Dome Scandal
    This scandal was caused by oil companies that were owned by the government in Wyoming. The government leased them to some people this oil companies were not supposed to be leased.
  • Calvin Coolidge is elected president

    Calvin Coolidge is elected president
    President Calvin Coolidge was our 30th president and served from 1923 to 1929. He was the president during the roaring 20's and was president for a little bit during the Great Depression

    The Spirt of St. Louis leaves New York for Paris acroos the Atlantic
    The Spirt of St. Louis took off from New York to Paris on May 20, 1927. This was going to be the first flight acrossed the Atlantic Ocean. The pilot of this plan was Charles Linbergh.

    The Spirt of St. Louis  lands in Paris
    Charles Lindberhg was the first man to fly acrossed the Atlantic Ocean. He finished his flight in almost one day. Alittle over 33 hours was how long it took him to make it from New York all the way to Paris.

    Black tuesday
    Black tuesday was when the stock market came crashing down. Many people tried to take money out of the bank. The bank didn't have their money and many people started try to take money out of the banks which caused many banks to close and cause the Great Depression.
  • Herbert Hoover is elected president

    Herbert Hoover is elected president
    He followed president Coolidge saying that he would keep jobs and keep the 30's just like the roaring 20's. That wasn't the case as the stock market crashed and everyone and everything was in bad shape. President Hoover servered from 1929 until 1933. He was our 31 president.

    The first use for the act was supposed to increase production of afforable domestic goods other then using international goods. This act was a big help during the Great Depression because it gave the United States money.
  • Bonus Army March

    Bonus Army March
    During the Great Depression troops from World War I weren't getting paid for their service so they marched to Washington D.C. to protest to the president.
  • Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)

    Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
    This was started so the unemployment rate for 18 to 25 year olds would go down. They were set up all around the country. They would get payed to do certain jobs and would get payed 30 to 22 dollars a month.

    The Tennesee Vally Authority begins (TVA)
    This Authority was started so that they could build dams so they could control flooding, improve navigation, and create cheap power.
  • FDIC is created

    FDIC is created
    FDIC is created so that if you lose money in the bank that is less then or equal to 250,000 dollars the bank had to pay you back. This was created shortly after the Great Depression.

    Frankiln D. Roosevelt is elected president
    Frankiln D. Roosevelt was our 32 president and served from 1933 to 1945 and was the only president to serve more then two terms. He got many people their jobs back and got America out for the depression.

    The dust bowl occured many in the western part of the country causing serious dust storms that somtimes crossed the entire country. But mostly it was the southwest part of the counrty.
  • Works Progress Adminstration (WPA)

    Works Progress Adminstration (WPA)
    This helped people get jobs during the depression. This help people get back on their feet when they were doing small jobs but still getting paid for it. This was a main part of the depression.
  • Social Security Act

    Social Security Act
    This act established a system of benefits, for workers, victims in industril accidents and insurance for people who were unemployed.
  • Start of WWII

    Start of WWII
    The start of the war was caused when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. The Germans were lead by the dictaor Adolf Hitler. WWII would be one of the hardest fought war the entire world had ever seen.
