    3/5 compromise
    Basically said that slaves should be counted as 3/5 of the population for purposes of the number of votes a state gets. This raised questions about the morality of slavery.

    Northwest Ordinance
    The Northwest Ordinance created a method of admitting new states. This also prohibited slavey in the north. Free states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio.

    Cotton Gin
    A machine that could easily process cotton by seperating the fibers and seeds. The south argues that they need slaves to feed the demand, but the north believes work should be done in factories.

    The kansas Nebraska act raised the line of the Missouri compromise to incr.ease area of slave states. Also, another goal after this was put into effect was to have a mideastern transcontinental railroad built. Slavery was a state of national issue.
