Unit 2: Revolutionary War

  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British troops were ordered to go to Boston to help officials enforce the townshend act. Upon arrival, civilians started threatening and throwing things at British officers, causing a riot within the town. In the comotion, three civilians were killed while eleven were injured.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The colonists were sick of paying taxes on tea. When Boston officials refused to return three ships back to Britiain, a group of colonists dressed as indians went aboard the ships and dumped all of the tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    Leiutenant Colonel Francis Smith and his men were given orders to destroy military weapons that were hidden near the Massachusetts militia at Concord. Colonials heard what was going on weeks before the British planned to attack. They moved all of the weapons and informed the militia. The militia fought British troops at Lexington. They were outnumbered and fled. The British proceded to Concord in search of the hidden supplies. A militia then shot at them all the way back to Boston.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    This battle took place on and around Breed's Hill and Bunker Hill. William Prescott and 1,200 colonial troops occupied both hills that the British had been instructed to occupy. Knowing this, British troops planned an attack. After many casualties, the British finally took over the hills on their third attempt

  • The Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration was mostly written by Thomas Jefferson. It was a formal explanation of why the colonies were declaring independence on Britiain. The Congress approved the document and today is now known as Independence Day.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    Washington and his men cross the Deleware to Trenton. There he surprise attacks the British. The American colonies win a much needed battle.
  • Battle of Princeton

    Battle of Princeton
    George Washington circled around Cornwallis's army and went to attack at Princeton. General Mercer of the colonial army fought with two regiment under the command of Lieutenant Mowhood. Mercer and his men were overrun and Washington sent a militia to help. When the Militia saw the fleeing colonials, they began to flee as well. Washington brought reinforcements and rallied the fleeing malitia. They then drove back Mawhood's troops and Mawhood retreated.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The Battles of Saratoga took place on September 19th and October 7th, 1777. The first battle was won by the British but they suffered many casualties. The Americans won the second battle when reinforcements did not show up to help Burgoyne.
  • Valley Forge

    Washington was suffering from many losses in the Revolutionary War. He then made a camp where colonial troops trained all through winter. By spring, Washington has a real army.
  • Battle or Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown was fought from September 28th to October 19th, 1781. Washington made a semi circle around the British army under the command of Cornwalis. Cornwalis feld from the battle and the Americans won.
  • Treaty of Paris

    This document formally ended the Revolutionary War. The document was signed at Hotel d'York. America is now an independent nation.
