  • Spanish-American War Began

    Spanish-American War Began
    The Spanish-American War began. President Mckinley originally did not want to go to war, but he was pressured into it by the public. It started, April 25th, 1989. This was the first step to the U.S becoming a world power, it allowed for the U.S. Military expand past the coutries border.
  • Spanish-American War Ended

    Spanish-American War Ended
    The Treaty of Paris ended the war. It allowed for the U.S. to control Guam and Puerto Rico. The U.S also paid $20 million to control the Philipines. The Treaty was singed on December 10th, 1989, ending the war, not even a year after it started.
  • World War I Began

    World War I Began
    The start of WWI was caused by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungry blamed Serbia and used that as an excuse to declar war on them. The U.S. joining the war was because of a telegram sent from Germany, called the Zimmerman Telegram. This telegram was written in code, which Great Britain decoded, and it basically said Germany was going to try to take control of Mexico. President of the U.S. at the time, Woodrow Wilson, had to declare war on April 6th, 1917.

    World War I Ended
    On Novemeber 11, 1918, Germany surrendered. This day was known as Armistice Day because it was the day that the armistice was singed, ending the war. The armistice that was signed was also known as the Treaty of Versailles. Germany was punished badly for starting the war. The countries did not want any more world wars so they started the League of Nations. Another event that helped the U.S. become a world power is that they joined the League of Nations.

    The Great Depression Began
    The Great Depression started the day the stock market crashed, October 29, 1929. The Great Depression was just that, a great depression. Everybody was thrown into poverty and nobody could take care of their familes. President Franklin Delanor Roosevelt tried to help the country get back on it's feet by providing a thing he liked to call, The New Deal. The New Deal provided many things to get the economy back such as, providng jobs and homes. The New Deal was not necessarily successful.

    The Holocaust Began
    The Holocaust began once Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and was given dictorial powers. He was totally against Jewish people and demanded they all go live in Concentration camps. Although, comcentration camps were not some plcace you wanted to be. They were treated terribly and killed. Germany took over Czechoslovakia and Poland, killing all the Jews.

    The Great Depression Ended, World War II Began
    The Great Depression did not actually end until WWII began. It made the rest of the world see the U.S. as a world power because the U.S. having a great depression made everyone else economies shut down, as well. The event that helped the U.S. get back on it's feet was the start of WWII. Since the U.S. did not enter the war unitl 1941, they leased military supplies to countries that were currently in the war, which of boosted the U.S. economy.

    The United States Entered World War II
    WWII began in Germany with Hitler thinking he could take over the weaker countries around him. During the same time that Hitler was taking over European countrie, Japan was taking over Asia. On Decemeber 8th, 1941, Japan bombed the Hawaiian harbor, forcing the U.S. to enter the war.
  • D-Day Occurred, World War II Ended

    D-Day Occurred, World War II Ended
    D-Day was the day that Allies formed a massive attack on Germany, trying to get Hitler to surrender. Germany did eventually surrender when hitler committed suicide on April 30th. Japan didn't surrender until 1945, when the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on them. This war helped U.S. become a world power because they teamed up and pretty much broke up the entire fight between Europe, Germany, and Japan.

    The Holocaust Ended
    The where no official date that the Holocaust ended, but I would say it was when Germnay surrendered during WWII. The U.S. president and 30 other country leaders held the Evian Conference to figure out what to do with all the refugees. France and Great Britain were sent out to liberate all the concentration camps. This event led to the U.S. becoming a world power because they were present through the entire thing, and president Roosevelt helped as much as he could.
  • The Cold War Began

    The Cold War Began
    The Cold War wasn't even really a war. It was between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It wasn't really a war becasue both sides never fought with each, it was more of just an intimidation war, who could intimiate the other person with their weapons more. They were arguing over which form of goverment Germany should have, since their government just got torn apart by the WWII. The Soviet Union was trying to spread the communism but everybody else wanted a democracy.
  • The 1950's began

    The 1950's began
    The 1950's were a time filled happiness, exciteness, and hopefulness. This was the first time that the economy was back on it's feet. People were ecstatic. They were buying houses, cars, getting married, and having kids. This was also a time where TV technology became more advanced and so did music. many big stars started here.
  • The Korean War Began

    The Korean War Began
    The Korean War was North Korea against South Korea. North Korea were communists, South Korea were not. Stalin and the Soviet Union supported North Korea with money and supplies, although they did not send them troups. On June 25th, 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea and attacked. South Korea was no match for North Korea, the United Nations stepped in to help South Korea. The U.S. sent in troups to fight. The United Nation troups pushed North Korea to the Chinese border.

    The Korean War Ended
    After lots of figthing, the Korean War became a stalemate. New U.S. president, Eisenhower, set out to end this war, and he did. On July 27, 1953, a cease fire was declared on Korea. The country was still divided into North and South, nobody won.
  • The Vietnam War Began

    The Vietnam War Began
    The Vietnam War was a war between the north half of Vietnam and the south half of Vietnam. The north half was communism and the south half was not. The U.S. supported South Vietnam because they were not a communism. They supported them with money and troups in case the north attacked. On December 9th, 1965, South Vietnam hosted a full blown attack on North Vietnam, with the help of the U.S. of course.
  • The Vietnam War Ended

    The Vietnam War Ended
    The current U.S. president, Nixon, wanted to reduce the amount of American troups in Vietnam, so he did. Nixon wanted to end the war using his philosophy of "peace with honor". On January 27, 1973, a "cease fire" was signed in Paris. All the American POW's were relased from North Vietnam. The American troups returned to the U.S.
  • The Cold AWar Ended

    The Cold AWar Ended
    On August 23, 1989, the Berlin wall came down. The Berlin wall coming down was symbolic to the war ending. The reason this war helped the U.S. become a world power is because the U.S. and Great Britain were the heros while the wall was up. The people in Berlin could not support themselves without the other half of the country. The U.S. arilifted supplies to them, making them kind of like the hero.
