What was name as "The Final event that influenced the souths decision to ceseed", the Election of 1860 was the last large event leading to the war. During the time the democratic party was split in 2 over the choice of nominating new candidate Stephen douglas or to renominate Pres. Buchanan.The republicans nominated Abraham Lincoln as their candidate. Promising exactly what the people waanted to hear, Abraham lincoln became the 16th President of the United States. -
Fort Sumter
Fort sumter was a military base in South Carolina. And after the state's secession orders were given by the south to evacuate immediately. When they refused the south opened fire on the fort, thus begining the first battle in the civil war. Another significant event around this time was Lincoln's use of executive power and the power as Comander-in-chief with out approval of congress on any matter. -
Battle of Bull Run
First major battle of the civil war. the battle took place neer bull run creek, manassas junction, Viginia where the union trioops marched to in an effort to ambush the rebels off guard. When its seemed the union had one the battle Gen. "Stonewall" Jackson coounterattacked and drove the rookie union army bask to washington. Gave the illusion of a quick lived war. -
