created a Supreme Court justice and its assissants. thirteen district courts were set up also. -

Madison had been begging that a bank be created by the federal government. His idea caused a lot of controversy throughout Congress, many drawn out arguments. -

Nobody in Congress really liked the idea of The Bank of The United States. A lot of Hamilton's ideas were rejected. -
France declared war on Great Britain
This was to be a war of all peoples against all kings. The Americans were unaware of whether or not they were supposed to uphold their ally with the French against the British. This declaration also created problems with shipping. -
Washington decides that the country will be neutral
He knows that the two different sides leaned towards two different ways. One side supported the French, one side supported the British. Washington decided to become neutral. -
Washington's Farewell Address
He formally stated that he was retiring from presidency. He served his term. He believed that was the longest a president should serve, in order to give other people a chance and have some variety in government. -
Adams becomes president.
Washington was good friends with John Adams, so he decided that he wanted him to be president after he resigned. Washington told the people to vote for Adams, and they did. -
Quasi-War
The French began to seize some of our ships, so we had a little war with them. Many Federalists wanted to have a complete war with them, but negotiations were made instead. That seemed to be a better idea. -
Alien and Sedition Acts
These acts were created in fear. Fear that there were too many republicans in our country created these acts. Some of the laws in them said that the President had the right to remove people from the country that he thought were suspicious. Another said that if they had not lived here for fourteen years could not vote. -
XYZ Affair
Anyone who refused to censure France was seen as a horrible person that was fit for treason. This was said by the Federalists. Relationships between Federalists and Republicans was shattered. -
Kentucky resolutions
These were written by Jefferson. This said that the states had full authority over all matters that were not specifically outlined in the Constitution. -
Virginia Resolutions
These were written by Madison. This urged the states to defend the rights of the American people. He did not believe that the power to overthrow the federal should exist in states, though. -
Adams withdrew from the Federalist Party
He did this because he really did not like war. He desired peace. -

This was also known as the Peaceful Revolution because people were coming to terms with the fact that there was going to be a winner, and that there could not be a war every time one side was chosen and the other was not. -
Jefferson is finally chosen as the president.
He an Aaron Burr each received 73 votes. The House of Representatives finally decided who would become president when the thirty-sixth ballot was passed.
