Mary Todd Lincoln's stay at the Bellevue Place Robert Todd Lincoln, arranged the insanity trial because of his distressed mother's abnormal behavior. She was committed to Bellevue Place, a mental hospital in Batavia, Illinois, where she remained for three months.
(At 31, Robert was the only other surviving son.)
Based on her symptoms she was belived to have, "tabes dorsalis", which is mistaken for madness. She also suffered from delusions, insomnia, and acute anxiety, which is thought to be related to her husbands 10 year death anniversary. -
Mary Todd Lincoln dies in Springfild in her sisters home at the age of 63 and is buried with her husband and sons in Oak Ridge Cemetary.
