In this unit we covered the Scientific Process which is:
Problem, Hypothesis, Experiment, Results, Conclusion -
We learned about independent and dependent variables this week. An independent variable is something you change in an experiment and dependent variable is something you measure.
-
In this unit we learned how to mass things on a scale and measure volume in a graduated cylinder
-
We learned about cells in this unit. The brain of the cell is the nucleus.
-
Cells are very small. We can only see them with a microscope.
-
To make slides of cells we had to get thin slices of the material and dye them to see them in the microscope.
-
Monerans are living organisms that do not have a nucleus. Bacteria are monerans.
-
Protists are one celled organisms with a nucleus. They often move with cilia or a flagella.
-
Fungi are single-celled organisms that are connected by hyphae. Types of fungi include mushrooms, yeast, and mold.
-
Cells divide by mitosis. In mitosis, all of an organisms chromosomes are copied. Reproductive cells divide by meiosis. In meiosis, only half an organisms chromosomes are copied.
-
Traits are passed on from generation to generation. You can figure out what traits are passed on using a Punnett Square. Dominant traits are traits that always show up. Recessive traits, like red hair, only show up if both parents have the recessive trait.
-
All of the directions for our body are contained in our DNA. Our DNA is stored in every cell in our body.

There are over 500 muscles in the human body. I have some of the strongest biceps known to man.
