  • Battle of Savannah

    Battle of Savannah
    Sir Henry Clinton sent Campbell and 3,500 troops from NC top Savannah in an attempt to regain control. Upon arrival it was dicovered how weak the American forces located there were. After capturing much of General Howe's army, the remaining men were forced to retreat to North Carolina.
  • Battle of Vincennes

    Battle of Vincennes
    George Clark successfully convinced Thomas Jefferson, George Mason and George Wyth of his plan to gain control of Illinios. On Feb. 23 Clark and his men entered Vincennes and a shooting match eventually began. Agter Hamilton denied Clark's request for a surrender, more shooting emerged. On Feb. 25 Hamilton signed terms of surrender and the fort was renamed Fort Patrick Henry.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    Battle of Cowpens
    This battle was a turning point for the Americans. Right off the bat the British lost many men. After pushing on they became tired and confused and lost the will to fight. A mass of chaos broke out among them but was abruptly stopped when the Americans fired at them. When the Americans began to charge at the British, they ran in fear. In the end it was a great win for America.
  • Siege of Charleston

    Siege of Charleston
    On April 1, Clinton cut off Charleston from relief for the Americans, beginning the siege. On May 12, Benjamin Lincoln was advised to surrender and did. The Americans not only lost the city of Charleston but 5,000 troops as well.
  • Battle of Camden

    Battle of Camden
    British forces routed the Americans six miles north of Camden, North Carolina which strengthened the British hold on the Caolinas. This was a major victory for the British.
  • Battle Of King's Mountain

    Battle Of King's Mountain
    The American forces completely outnumbered the British. After catching the Loyalists by surprise it became apparent that the British had little to no chance of winning. After the Loyalist leader, Ferguson, died they began to surrender.
  • The Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    The Battle of Guilford Courthouse
    This American defeat was between 4,000 Americans and only 1.400 British soldiers. Before the battle, the British looked to have regained North Carolina and Georgia. They also optimistically thought they could conquer North Carolina. The one upside was the American General Nathanel Greene was able to destroy the Bristish's hold on the south.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    With the French backing them up, the Americans set up guns to shoot at the British throughout the entire night so they could not repair their weapons. In their trenches, many Birtish soldiers fled. After a series of many more events that favored the American/French troops, the British lost.
