The Invention of the English Alphabet
The invention of the alphabet was invented by an Anglo-Saxon named Bryhtferth. He narrowed down the english letters into this 26 letter alphabet. I feel this belongs on the timeline because this was a turning point in the english language as it allowed people to read and write easier. Reading and writing is a huge part of media and that's why it is a top media innovation. -

The Invention of the Printing Press
The Printing Press is a machine used to mass produce writing materials like books by pressing ink on a surface like cloth or paper. This was used to press books and other writing materials without having to write it by hand. I feel it belongs on the timeline because it allowed people to buy books at a cheaper price because of the mass production instead of someone writing a book by hand. MAny things like magazines, books and other writing materials could not have been made without it. -
The Invention of the Telegraph
The Telegraph is a device used to send sound signals through a wire. It would be read by another telegraph by "Beeps". This was invented by a man named Samuel Morse. I feel this belongs on my timeline because this was the first device that could be used to communicate through long distances. Without this invention there probably wouldn't be things like the Telephone, Internet and other forms of communication. -
Invention of Morse code
Morse code is a form of communication where letters of the alphabet are represented in a dot formation. It was invented by Samuel Morse for the telegraph. I feel this should be on the timeline because it was hte first form of code that was used on the Telegraph. This was important because you couldn't communicate vocally with the telegraph, so the invention of this code helped people understand what people were saying. -
Invention of the Telephone
The telephone is a device used to transmit vocal signals from one Telephone to another. The person responsible for patening and creating this device is Alexander Graham Bell. I believe this should be on the time line because it was a revolutionary device as it was very hard for people to communicate vocally from long distances. It also lead up to such inventions as the Blackberry and the iPhone. -
First Radio Broadcast
The first radio broadcast was the first sucessful broadcast signal that could be read by other radios. The person responsible for this is Reginald Fessenden. I believe this should be on the timeline because this was a breakthrough in media and communication as it would lead up to people being able to hear the news accurately and entertainment to begin on the radio. -
Invention of the Television
The Television is a device that projects an image through a glass screen. The person responsible for the invention was Philo Farnsworth. I believe this belongs on the time line because this device was probably one of the big reasons media is so big today. It started visual news reports, entertainment shows and many other things that we still use today in the media. -
Apple Sells First Home Computer
A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and manipulates data, and provides output in a useful format. The person responsible for developing the first home computer is Steve Wozniak. I feel this belongs on the timeline because the computer is one of the most used things in the world right now and computers are now a big form of media these days (Web 2.0, working at home etc.) -
Release of the iPod
The iPod is a hard drive type of device that is used to play music. The person responsible for developing the iPod was Steve Jobs. I believe the iPod belongs on the timeline because it would revolutionize the way we listen to music. The iPod is the most used music player in the world and it brought in such things as a screen, being able to watch movies, -
Web 2.0
The term Web 2.0 is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. The person responsible for creating this is Tim O'reilly. I feel this belongs on the timeline because it is the new version to view the world wide web, through interaction and entertainment. Things like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook would not have been possible to make if it weren't for this concept.
