7.3 Contraception

  • Contraception relation with prevention

There are many ways to avoid STDs and teenage pregnancy such as abstinence and contraception. "Contraception is the use of various devices, drugs, agents, sexual practices, or surgical procedures to prevent conception or impregnation (pregnancy)" (Growth and Development 7). These things may lessen the risk of pregnancy and STDs but does not take the risk away.
  • STDs

Condoms are one way to decrease the risk of an STD, but some cannot be prevented at all. " No method of contraception
can fully prevent the transmission of HPV, because it can
infect areas not covered by a condom" (Growth and Development 9).
  • Teen Pregnancy and Contraception

There are many ways to lessen the risk of getting pregnant. "Making choices about birth control, or contraception, isn't easy. There are many things to think about" (Growth and Development 9). Make sure you think of your health, the type you use, and that it does not prevent STDs.
  • Personal Story

My cousin was in her senior year of high school when she got pregnant, and she was 18 when it happened. They decided to get married before they had the baby. They used protection, but the small chance of pregnancy happened. They both had full parental support, which is a big deal, and they decided to keep the baby. They knew their chances, and are dealing with it. They both take college classes and have jobs to support the baby.
