  • Hydrogen Bomb

    Hydrogen Bomb
    The hydrogen bomb production begun in 1950 and ended in 1957. The first model was the weakest at 1.69 megatons; however, models two and three where more powerful at 3.8 megatons.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    On June 25, 1950, the Korean War Began when 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People’s Army poured across the 38th parallel, the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the North and the pro-Western Republic or Korea to the South. This invasion was the first military action of the Could War. Finally, in July 1953, the Korean War came to an end. In all, some 5 million soldiers and civilians lost their lives during the war.

    Cars from the 50's

    When the 50’s came around the car industries began to play with the designs. Cars became lower, sleeker, and shinier. They also started using fins.

    Cold War

    It was essentially an arms race between the USA and the USSR. Kept threatening each other with nuclear missiles. One of the tensest times in the cold war was the Suez Crisis when Egypt and the Allies where fighting over a channel to remove a dictator from power.
  • TV Introduced

    TV Introduced
    The TV was introduced in 1951. It became a new cheap form of entertainment. Some of the favorite shows were “I Love Lucy” and “Father knows best.”
  • Polio Vaccine

    Polio Vaccine
    First tested in 1952 and first developed by Jonas Salk. In 1957 he began human trials and it was licensed as a vaccine in 1962. These vaccines almost eradicated all of polio off the face of the earth.

    Immigration and Nationality Act
    The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 was meant to exclude certain immigrants from migration to America. post World War II and in the early Cold War. The Immigration and Nationality Act moved away from excluding immigrants based simply upon country of origin. Instead it focused on denying immigrants who were unlawful, immoral, diseased in any way, politically radical, ect. and social, and political structure, which restructured how immigration law was handled.

    Segregation
    Kenneth and Mamie Clark did an investigation where they found out that most of the children showed that white was view as good and black as ugly. They found out that a African American child would accept as early as six would accept their stereotyped group. In 1954 racial discrimination was ruled unconstitutional in schools.

    Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 - October 24, 2005) was an African-American civil rights activist, whom the U.S Congress called “the first lady of civil right’ and “the mother of the freedom movement.” On December 1. 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake’s order that she give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger, after the white section filled.

    In 1955 Disneyland opened in California. Disneyland was a great event because it allowed a place for both adults and children to have fun in the same place. Everyone was really excited about the opening because there was more things to do with their kids and enjoy themselves in the nice California weather.

    1957 Dr. Seuss Published “Cat in the Hat.” This book was inspired for children and many enjoyed the fact that they were making books easy enough for children to read actually enjoy. It was a very popular book and it still is to this day.

    The first Earth satellite fir the United States. Was the begging of the Cold War space race to see which country could land on the moon first. It was the first spacecraft to detect the Allen radiation belt.

    In 1958 Lego blocks were introduced to the public. Parents thought they were a very good thing because they began to spark the imagination of children throughout the U.S. Years later Lego went world wide and still there are many children playing with legos and using them to build their imagination.

    Alaska was the 49th state. Henry Steward signed the agreement to get the land from Russia. Many people called Alaska “Sewards Folly”or “Sewards Icebox.”Many tourist, oil companies, and gold seekers found Alaska to be rather inviting.
  • Hawaii

    Hawaii
    Hawaii became the 50th and final state of the United States of America. We were allowed to have a naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. When it was attacked by the Japanese that is what brought America into World War ll.
