History of Computer Games

  • The brown box (not actual date) 1st gen

    This is the prototype for the Odyssey. It could by played on a television and was powered by batteries. Its game was 2 players could control a square that they would chase each other around the screen with. It was designed and built by Raph Bear.
  • Fairchild Channel f 2nd gen (not actual day)

    Fairchild Channel F was only released in the US it was the first video game system to have cartidges containing ROM chips. It found its name from the Fairchild F8 microprocessor which was invented by Robert Noyce who then left to start his on company, Intel.
  • Nintendo Entertaniment system (NES) 3rd gen

    The nes was first released in Japan, this is the console that finshed the video game crash of 1983 and now is said that it's the best seller of its time. Its best seller Super Mario Bros has sold 40.23 million in 1999 and as of now is the best selling game ever sold.
  • Sega Mega Drive/Genesis fourth gen

    The Mega Drive was one of two 16 bit video game consoles and its competitor the NES. In 1991 Sega introduced Sonic the hedgehog as their new game and mascot like nintendo did with Mario, which won them the 16 bit war. It's now sold 26 million widewide. Its best selling game Sonic the hedgehog sold 6 million copies in 2006.
  • Nintendo 64 firth gen

    The nintendo 64 wasa first released in Japan, it got its name 64 from its 64 gpu and was Nintendo 3rd and last home game console to use game cartiages. Its best selling was super mario 64 that was one of two launch game, it sold over eleven million copies and was the first game to be in 3-D.
  • Xbox

    This was Microsoft corporaration first try at coming into the gaming business, which must of been a good idea because they have sold 24 million before it was discontinued in late 2006 and then brough out its successor the Xbox 360. Its best selling was Halo 2 the sequel of Halo which sold 8 million in may 6 2006 and since have released halo 3 for Xbox 360.
  • Nintendo Wii seventh gen

    this is the newest video game console from nintendo, what makes it so special is its wireless controller and wii remote which is motion sensed and manipulate what the game does by just moving their arms holding the wii remote. Their is also the wii balance board for wii fit it is surposed to be a fun way to keep fit and is for all the family.
