Odyseeus fights in the Trojan War for 10 years

Odysseus and his men attack the Cicones. Their intial attack were successful, but they are soon driven back into the sea.

Odysseus' ship arrives on the island of the Lotus Eaters. A few of his men are enchanted by them. In order to save them, Odyesseus has to hoist them onto the ship. They quickly sail away.

Odysseus and his men are held captive on an island of Cyclopes. Their capturer is a cylcops named Polyphemus. Odysseus formulates a plan and they escape from the island and Odysseus brings a curse upon himself.

Odysseus and his men arrive on the island inhabited by the god Aeolus. He gives them two bags of wind to aid them on their journey back to Ithaca. Just as Ithaca is their sights some of Odysseus' men release the stormy winds and they are swept back to Aeolus' island.

Odysseus sails onto the island of Circe. Some of his men are transformed to pigs when they are lured by her. Hermes makes Odysseus immune to Circe's magic and he successfully frees his men.

Odysseus travels to the land of the dead. He consults the prophet Tiresias. He warns him not to eat the cattle of the god Helios.

Odysseus and his men continue sailing until they encounter Scylla. Odysseus' men plug their ears with wax to prevent themselves from hearing her song. She eats some of Odysseus' men. They avoid Charybdis, the monster, and continue on their journey.

Odysseus and his men briefly return to the island of Circe.

Although Odysseus is warned to avoid eating the cattle of Helios, his men still kill and eat them. Helios, now angry goes to Zeus. Zeus hits Odysseus' ship with a lightning bolt. Everyone is killed except Odysseus.

Odysseus makes it to the island of Calypso, the nymph of the island stays with her for 7 years.

After seven years, Zeus finally sends Hermes to release Odysseus. Calypso is instructed to build him a raft and allow Odysseus to leave.

Odysseus meets King Alsinous and reveals his identity. He retells his adventures to him. The king gives him a ship to return home.

At last, Odysseus is home on Ithaca. He has been gone for 20 years and he barely remembers his homeland. Athena disguises him as an old beggar and instructs him to visit Eumaeus

Odysseus meets his son while in Ithaca. In the beginning, Telemachus is afraid, but he soon realizes that Odysseus really has returned. They and Odysseus' loyal servants plan for the murder of the suitors.

With the help of the goddess Athena, Odysseus kills all 100 of the suitors. He and Penelope reunite and the epic ends shortly after.
