Odysseus and his men see land and Eurylochus convinces him to drop anchor there. they pillage the empty city, and after a meal, they fell asleep on the shore. That morning, the Ciconians approach them, killing many men.

Odysseus then arrives on the land of the Lotus-eaters. The men go and eat the lotus flowers, which make them forget their homeland and makes them want to stay forever, enjoying the tasty lotus flowers. Odysseus drags them back to the ship and they leave.

AFter many weeks of sailing, they land on the land of the Cyclopes. They enter a cave, and unkowningly into Polyphemus's home. He eats two men per day. Polyphemus wont let them exit. Odysseus quickly devises a plan to trick the Cyclops and escaping.

A few of Odysseus' men are sent ashore to explore. the island Telepylos. The men come across a girl who takes them to her father. Along the way, giants come and kill the men. The giants smash the ships, but Odysseus manages to escape with a few sailors.

Lands on Aeolia, home of Aeolus, god of the winds. Aeolus learns of Odysseuss's journey, he gives them a bag full of wind. As the ship nears Ithaca, Odysseus falls asleep, and his men open the bag that he had been gaurding with his life. The stormy winds pushes the ship back to Aeolia. Aeolus refuses to give them another gift.

They land on Aeaea, home of Circe, who is rumored to be a witch. They walk into her home and call for her. She comes out of the area where she sat. She feeds them, and, after, she turned them into pigs. With help from Hermes, Odysseus takes a herb that defends him against Circe's magic. He spends a year with her.

Odysseus goes to the Underworld after Circe tells him to seek out the prophet Tiresius for instructions. Tiresius tells him, in order to get back home, he must go between Scylla and Charybdis.

Odysseus covers his the ears of his men with wax so they could not hear the Sirens, but requests to be tied so he can listen to them.

Odysseus decides to go closer to Scylla. He does not tell his men of his decision. Many warriors are eaten by Scylla.

Thereafter, Zeus sends a lightning bolt and sinks the ship, killing all but Odysseus, who had not eaten the cattle of Helios.

He arrives at the land of the Phaeacians. he speaks with King Alcinous and tells him of his plight and his name. In response, Alcinous grants him with their fastest ship in order to return home
