  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    This act provided a 10-year moratorium on Chinese labor immigration

    Eugene Victor Debs was a member of the democratic party. He was one of the members of the Industrial Workers of the World.
    significance- arrested for making a speech that denounced the involvement of the United States in World War l

    Jim Crow laws (these began earlier but continue during this era)

    Laws that were put in pace in order to maintain racial segregation after the civil war.
    significance- made segregation of races possible after the civil war.
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    The Sinking of the Lusitania happened during the first World War. Germany using submarine warfare killed about 1900 people on a British route from New York to England.
    significance- Germany used submarine warfare, this put in action a German blockade
  • Zimmerman Telegram

    A telegram from Germany to Mexico that offered the American territory in exchange for Mexico assisting in the German cause.
    significance- The document lead the United States to enter World War One
  • Sedition Act

    The sedition made consequences for anyone that interfered on the war
    significance- Made it illegal for writing or any publishing of things against congress to be made
  • 18th Amendment

    The eighteenth amendment prohibited alcoholic drinks with the exception of drinks used for religious purposes. The eighteenth amendment was the first amendment to be repealed.
    significance- made the selling of alcohol illegal
  • 19th amendment

    The right to vote for women was created by the twentieth amendment. In 1915 a bill was created with the same goal but did not pass. Twice the billed was passed by only one more person then needed to make it pass.
    significance- Prohibited the permission to vote to be based off go gender
  • Immigration Act of 1924

    The Immigration Act of 1924 limited the number of people that could enter the United States through immigration. The act provided immigration visas.
    significance- significantly decreased the amount of immigrants able to enter the country.
  • John Scopes - The Monkey Trial

    John Scopes was a teacher that was a accused of teaching evolution. This would of violated a law in Tennessee, therefore he was put on trial.
    significance- the teacher was found guilty for breaking a Tennessee law by teaching evolution.
  • 20th amendment

    The twentieth amendment establishes the beginning and end to the terms of elected federal officials.
    significance- determines when government elected offices end and what happens if a president dies.
  • 21st amendment

    The twenty-first amendment was created to abolish the prohibition and repeal the eighteenth amendment.
    significance- made it legal to sell alcohol

    The scare through the United States that came from the communist threats to the United States.
    significance- people had fears that the United States would not win and the country would be taken over by communist parties.
