    Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife vistited the capital of Bosnia. While in Sarajevo they were both shot dead. This is what was believed to be the spark that lead to war.

    On August 3rd of 1914, the Germans invaded Belgium. Following the Schlieffen Plan. This plan was calling for a quick defeat. What a disappointment.

    German U-boats attacked and sunk the Lusitania. It was a british ship. 128 Americans lost thier lives when the boat was sunk. Germans defended themselves by saying that the Lusitania carried amuunition and guns.

    This was the 1916 U.S. presidential election. Democrats wanted Wilson, while the Republicans wanted Charles Eveans Hughes.

    Rankin was the first woman to get into Congress. She believed being the first woman to say no to war and have some meaning behind it meant a lot. so at 1:00 AM she stood up looked around the table at all the guys in Congress and said i vote no on starting a war. and walked out of the room.

    Congress passed this the Selective Service Act. This requried men and boys to regrister with the goverment in order to be randomly selected for the military.

    wilson presented this speech to congress. Even before the war was over. This speech was about world peace and how we should have it.
