    William John Janklow (Bill Janklow) was born on September 13, 1939. He is originally from Flandreau, SD and is a member of the Republican party. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1964 with a law degree. After college he became a Legal Services lawyer on the Rosebud Indian Reservations. He became South Dakota's Governor in 1978 and then re-elected in 1982.

    George S. Mickelson was South Dakota's Governor from 1987 until his death in 1993. Mickelson died in a plane crash in Iowa. He was originally from Mobridge, SD and is a member of the Republican party. His father was also a Governor is SD in 1947. There are a number of establishements in South Dakota that are named after him today.

Rounds has had an important part in passing a number of Janklow's initiatives, including property tax reduction, school aid funding, and the wiring of South Dakota schools.
