  • Invention of the telegraph

    This law was of many federal United States laws. It gave a applicant freehold title up to 160 acres of undeveloped land outside of the original 13 colonies.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    This law was passed by Congress and signed by Chester A. Authur. Thid act provided a 10 year moratorium on Chinese labor immigration.
  • End of the Civil War

    Even though so many people thought building a transcontinental railroad would be a really good idea their was alot of disagreement between alot of people.
  • Boss Tweed jailed

    Boss Tweed ends up escaping jail in 1875. But then gets arrested again he dies in jail in 1878.
  • Telephone is invented

    A big war to push the Sioux and Cheyenne Indians back to their reservations.
  • End of Reconstruction

    This definitely had much conflict between the North and the South!!!!
  • Pendleton Act

    This act was signed by Chester A. Authur who had become a ardent reformer after Garfields assasination.
  • Time zones created

    time zones could be divided in standard and daylight saving. This could schedule multiple trains or single tracks.
  • Dawes Act

    This allowed the president to break up reservation land which was held by the memebers of a tribe.
  • Sherman Anti-Trust Act

    First measure passed by the U.S. Congress to prohibit trusts it was named for Senator John Sherman.
  • Battle of Wounded Knee

    This event shook the Native American community, and could have been the final act that resulted in the eventual depletion of the Native population and culture.
  • Ellis Island opens

    Their were 12 million people that entered the United States through Ellis Island. Ellis Island is still in the upper part of New York Bay.
