3.5 timeline

  • Navigation acts

    Intended to promote the self sufficiency of the British Empire by restricting colonial trade to England. Also decreasing dependence on foreign imported goods.
  • French and Indian War

    The American Indians were fighting for their land. The war ended with the treaty of Paris. Britain was the final winner of this war.
  • Stamp Act

    Taxed goods like paper and pamphlets. It caused strained relations with colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Colonists were throwing rocks and snow and sticks at these British soldiers, then one of the, shot so they all started shooting. There were five deaths from it.
  • Tea act

    Britain taxed tea, and the Americans were unhappy with this and it chased many fights.
  • Boston tea party

    Colonists were over the tea taxes and they threw newly sent tea over a ship into the water, so Britain punished them and their state of Massachusetts.
  • Continental Congress

    Here the congress issued the declaration of rights. The purpose was to show support to Boston and figure out how to approach Britain.
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts

    There acts were trying to isolate Boston. But colonists responded with anger.
  • Lexington and Concord

    First shots of the revolution were fired in this battles beginning. Because of this battle Washington held a continental congress.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    It was a formal meeting of delegates to form a provisional government.
  • Declaration of Independence Adopted

    This declaration put out the idea there are certain rights for different people. And everyone.
  • Us Constitution written

    The constitution is the worlds longest written surviving written charter of government. It remained in place 200 years.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The winner of this battle was America. The French decided to hop in and help America since they won.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    A hard winter with sickness and diseases, hunger and lack of food, and death. Washington did his best to hold it together and make it out of there and he did.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    This was the final battle and ended the revolution with the Americans winning. Because of that America would be a free country.
  • Us Constitution adopted

    39/55 people signed this document. One person didn’t since it supported protecting slavery.
