    When Elvis blew up in the 50s, he revolutionized American music and pop culture. Initially, his music and dances were considered to be provocative and inappropriate, but America later adapted to accept his style of music, known as "Rock 'N Roll", as another new pop culture norm of their rapidly changing and evolving society.

    A battle between the US and USSR government to be the first in space; however, although the USSR beat the US into space with the first satellite and first man in space, the US is widely considered the winner of the space race because they beat the USSR to the moon, and are still the only ones to go to the moon to this day

    Occurred when American players visited the Chinese capital for a game of ping-pong, making them the first Americans to do so since 1949. This match of ping-pong helped greatly in diplomatic talks between the US and China during the cold war.

    The Watergate scandal mostly stems from the Nixon administration's attempts to cover up their involvement in the break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Office Building. The resulting events would lead to Nixon's resignation and presidential pardoning by his vice president, Gerald Ford.

    Most well known for pardoning Nixon of his crimes in Watergate, but he later on set up a conditional amnesty program for draft dodgers that had fled from the nation to avoid joining the military during Vietnam.
