    Thaumatropes was invented in 1826 by Dr. John Ayrton. Thaumatropes simply of a disc with two pieces of string attached to it, on each pieces theres a drawing.

    The phenakistiscope was developed. Many variations on these and other optical toys developed in this period. The phenakistoscope used a spinning disc attached vertically to a handle.
