Jon Krakauer got a phone call from Rob Hall, for a spot open for the 1996 Mount Everest Expedition.

March 29, 1996 was the first day of many months ahead of the climbers. The climbers knew what they were getting into. They had rough and treacherous weather ahead of them. Possible Starvation for days upon end, and major catastrophes. Their hope was to get out alive.

On April 23rd,1996, Nawang became very sick with high altitude edema. High Altitude Edema is where you are at a very high point where you cannot get enough oxygen. High Altitude Edema can be so serious that you could possibly die from it sooner or later.

Sherpa's didn't get out ahead of Jon's group on May 9th.

On May 9th, 1996 Chen Nu-Yan falls into a large crevasse. His chances of living were very slim. He survives at first, and he is back at a camp, but then passes away later on.

On May 10th, 1996 over 30 climbers set out onto Mount Everest. Most People made it to the summit at about 2pm. Much later than considered safe. On the way down, a sudden blizzard swiped across the mountain. Due to poor visibility some of the climbers were easily seperated or lost. Sadly, Eight of them died that day.

On May 10th, 1996 Andy Harris is walking back to camp. In front of him was Jon Krakaeur who returned to camp just minutes before Andy fell. Andy Harris fell off of a cliff. That cliff was 4,000 feet high. 4,000 feet is quite a ways to fall. Andy died instantly.
