  • Education act

    The Conservative Minister of Education R.A. Butler attempted to create a structure for post war education in Great Britain. One of the reforms of the act was to elevate the leaving school age to 15. Another reform was that education was universally free across the three types of school: grammer, Secondary modern and technical. Entrance to the schools was decided on 11+ exams.

    After a few years since the 1944 education act was introdcued the leaving school age was raised to 15.

    GCE's were introduced in place of school certificates.

    Conservatives win election under leadership of Maggie.
    It leads to reforms in education from 1979 to 1988. Some of the major reforms of the education act were: Schools were closed if there werent enough pupils. Power shifted away from LEA's and more towards schools and parents in order to compete. Bright kids were given the chance to attend private schools through government funding. Conservatives rule throughout my school education.

    I am the youngest boy to be selected for my primary school football team, i go on to captain the team and play until i leave. It was one of the happiest times of my childhood.

    My parents apply for me to attend Alsager high school. The application is rejected and i am forced to go my local secondary school.

    I take what was known as the 11+ exams, however my year to these exams in our first year at secondary school. This seperates my year into sets for the start of the second year.

    In 1992 the power of funding was taken out of the hands of the minister of state and was now governed by Funding agency for schools and Funding agency for wales. HE funding council take control of sixth form and college funding.

    From the education act of 1992, Ofsted were formed. Its purpose was to attain high standards. Each teacher expected to expect the best from their pupils.

    I have an abscess which burst and leaks into my blood stream, i am off for school until april and my final year was affected beyond repair.

    The education act of 1998 gave the LEA the power to intervene if a school is showing weakness in one or two areas or pupils are constantly underachieving etc.

    A pupil has special educational needs if he/she has a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made or has a disability which prevents them from using the facilities in school.
  • Every Child Matters

    After Lord Lamings report about the death of Victoria Climbié, the government publish the paper Every Child Matters in September 2003. The proposals from the paper were then put in place just four months later. The proposals are as follows: Supporting parents and carers Early intervention and effective protection Accountability and poor integration Workforce reform The aim was to protect and maximise oppurtunity for every child.

    Mike Tomlinson Proposes to drop A levels and Vocational qualifications in favour of Diplomas. The proposal is rejected by the government.

    I begin to coach football to young children and it makes me consider a future in teaching.
  • 2006 Education and inspections act

    The legislation gave head teachers more authority for the pupil's behaviour out of school. WIth the ever increasing problem of 'Cyber-bullying' this is an important change for schools.
  • DCSF reccomend further help for dyslexia

    the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families announced that the DCSF recommended a pilot scheme for children with dyslexia, the children recieve reading recovery support or one-to-one tuition from specialist dyslexia teachers.
