    The men would beat on women after or during drinking. They would also spend a lot of money at the bars as well as most of their time. The crime rate went up because there was a bunch of religious activists that would attack saloons or any place that stored alcohol.

    18th Amendment is the ban the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. A lot of people were against this right away, they are called bootleggers. Al Capone is a bootlegger and a lot of people were. Al Capone is the most powerful man due to his large alcohol smuggling business. He got paid a lot of money from it and was able to pay off and bribe police to keep his business running.

    Many people would not listen to the new amendment so the Volstead act was passed by Congress on October 28,1919. It was named after Andrew Volstead which was the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. The problem with the act that was in the 18th amendment, it didn't exactly prohibit the amount of drinking or the purchase of alcohol.

Many men spent most of their money on alcohol and didn't spend it on the things they needed so farmers didn't get paid much. The industrials output dropped dramatically and many banks went bankrupt.

    Al Capone was a mob boss and controlled many speakeasies which were alcohol business. In May 1929, he was arrested and sentenced to a year in prison, but instead. He served nine months in a luxurious prison cell and still controlled his business. On October 17, 1931 Al Capone was sentenced 11 years in federal prison, finally ending his control of the Chicago underworld.

    John D. Rockefeller wrote a letter hoping people would listen to the 18th Amendment. Many of the wealthy people were supporters of the 18th amendment. The letter talked about how the 18th Amendment failed. Instead of the alcohol decreasing it increased and so did the crime.

    It was proposed in Febuary but it wasn't adopted until December 1933. Since a lot of people didnt want to listen to the 18th admendment the volstead act was also failed and the 21 admendment was created.

    The Cullen-Harrison Act was a strong support to legalize beverages with a low alcoholic content. Which made the alcohol content 3.2% of beer and wine. It would reduce violence, poverty, and domestic abuse. It would increase productivity, health, prosperity, and morality. On March 21 1993 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act.
