The Progressive Era was a time of change in the economy of the US.During the era, alchohol was prohibited. At the same time, women fought for suffrage, to the point where the suffrage amendmant was passed. Government was changed to be more responsive to the people. Texas moved most industries to Houston after the Galveston Hurricane.

The discovery of oil at Spindletop opened the gates to a new era. Boomtowns sprung up near places oil was found. Oil powered new industries like road paving and automotives. However, the US soon went in to a bust. Regulation soon brought oil to it's former value.

During WWI, countries all over the world had conflicts with one another. Even before the war, the US had problems with Mexico. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated. This triggered World War I. As the US attempted to stay out of the war, a British passenger ship carrying US citizens was sunk by German. This, and the discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram prompted the US to enter the war.

The Great Depression was a time in which countless people lost their jobs and banks shut down. The beginning of the era started with the stock market crash. This forced multiple banks to shut down. This era also included the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl mostly affected the southern part of the US, and was a severe drought that resulted in the loss of many farms.

World War II was a depressing time throughout the world. The Holocaust changed the world's perspective on the Germans. The US eventually joined WWII upon being bombed by Japan. During the war, D-Day occured, changing the outcome of the war. The US, perhaps feeling they needed to get revenge, They bombed Japan twice towards the end of the war.
