    World War I

    During WWI, countries all over the world had conflicts with one another. Even before the war, the US had problems with Mexico. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated. This triggered World War I. As the US attempted to stay out of the war, a British passenger ship carrying US citizens was sunk by German. This, and the discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram prompted the US to enter the war.

This forced multiple banks to shut down. This era also included the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl mostly affected the southern part of the US, and was a severe drought that resulted in the loss of many farms.
