    First discovered by native texans in the early 1900's. Texas oil hunter Anthony Lucas struck it big in Janurary, 1901 at Spindletop, Texas. After that oil companies and ordinary people looking to make money rushed to Texas to strike oil. Eventually this oil boom ends when the oil feilds get over drilled and over rigged. This cyclecintuined for th next few years.

    Galvestn, Texas was a thriving port city. Many pople called it the NYC of he south. Then Weatherman Isaac Cline started running the local weather station there. He declared that no storm could really damage Galvesto because of the shalloww waters surrouding it.He couldn't be more wrong! On September 8,1900 a masive hurricane, one of the largest ever recorded, hit Galveston and destroyed everything.

    WWI began on July 28, 1914 when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austrie was assassinated in Boznia. Austria- Hungary declared war on Serbia and created the Allied Forces. France, Great Britian, Italy, Russia, and Belguim quickly joined the Allies as well. Then on April 6, 1917 the US joined the Allies after a German telegram was intercepted by Britian asking Mexico to join the Central Powers with a promise of land they lot in the Mexican- American War if they won.

    The US was thriving many many people put their money in the stock market hoping to make double or triple what they had off of new proucts and inventions. Then in 1929, the unthinkable happened, the stock market crashed this led to great poverty and job loss throughtout the country. As if things weren't already bad enough out in the plains gigantic coulds of dust and dirt raced accross praries and killed hundreds of people. This was called the dust bowl.

    On September 1, 1939 Germant invaded Poland. There new leader Adolf Hitler was trying to regain land they had lost in WWI. FRance and Great Britian delcared war on Germany on September 3, 1939, only 2 dasy later. At first the US wanted to stay out of he war, but after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor the US had no choice but to fight.
