  • Vehicular advance

    The Wright brothers had managed to make a functioning plane tht should not glide, but start up and fly for a short distance, making the world recognize that flight was truly possible by means of mechanics and engineering. Also, the first model-T Ford car was produced in October 1st, 1908.
  • The first world war

    The first world war broke out at this time, and had only ended at November 11, 1918. This dominated almost all events during the period of the 1910's. There was, however, a time soon after where people could taste their first Oreo's, and fill out crosswords.
  • Japan declares war on Germany

    Japan declares war on Germany
    On August 15th, Japan issued Germany an ultimatum demanding that the German fleet be withdrawn from the Far East and that Kiaochow be surrendered within the week. When no answer was forthcoming, it declared war on Germany.
  • Media breakthrough

    In this decade there was the first film with sound incorporated made. Named the Jazz singer, it recieved influence from the times where people were wearing short skirts, and dancing around to Jazz music. (The first Mickey Mouse cartoon was also made)
  • Great depression

    The great depression ran through an entire decade nearly, and everyone was in a golbal economic crisis. This allowed the Nazis to gain power and establish their first concentration camp. This also managed to link in with the crime spree of Bonnie and Clyde.
  • World War 2

    Yet Another World War dominated most of another decade. The second World War brought hate upon global scales, and in the same decade, saw the assasination of Gandhi.
  • India and Pakistan

    India and Pakistan
    The British House of Commons passed the Indian Independence Act, or Mountbatten Plan, which divided India into two dominions, India and Pakistan. It called for each dominion to be granted its independence by Aug. 15 of that year.
  • SEATO

    In an additional collective security alliance modeled on N.A.T.O., eight nations formed the South East Asia Treaty Organization. The nations were the United States, Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Pakistan, and Thailand. Members of S.E.A.T.O. are pledged to their mutual defense
  • China's A-bomb

    China's A-bomb
    On October 16th the Chinese exploded their first atomic weapon. The Chinese thereby became the fifth nation to produce the bomb. The U.S., U.S.S.R., Great Britain and France were the other nuclear powers. China pledged that it would not be the first to use nuclear weapons.
  • Communists take over Vietnam

    On April 30th, Communist forces captured Saigon, ending the Vietnam War. The North Vietnamese began their offensive in early March when they captured Ban Me Thuot, the capital of Dariac province. The North Vietnamese attack was spearheaded by tanks and other heavy forces. As the North Vietnamese forces advanced, the South Vietnamese army disintegrated. The United State's only intervention was to airlift key South Vietnamese personal to safety.
