When God saw that Abraham feared God so much that he didn't even withhold his only son from God, He provided a ram to replace Isaac. This also foreshadows God providing us with Jesus to take our place as a sacrifice, filling the earth with God's glory. He then sent his angel back down to tell Abraham and Isaac once again of his covenant to use them to advance his mission of spreading glory.

Genesis 28:14 - "All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring." This connects to John 14:6 when Jesus says “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". Through Jesus, we are all blessed with life. Jesus is one of Jacob's offspring, shown in Jesus' genealogy in Matthew 1:1-17. Therefore, all peoples on earth are blessed through Jacob's offspring.

God blessed Jacob in Genesis 28, even after Jacob deceived his brother. He realised how much he didn't deserve God's great promises to him. In verse 17, he says “How awesome is this place!". Over the summer, I realised how fortunate I am even though I did nothing to deserve it. In verse 22, Jacob vows that he will give back a tenth of all that God gives him. It gave me a certain sense of responsibility to use my blessings well and give back, and a feeling of regret for wasting them for so long.
