  • Sometime when I was Young

When I was really little, before third grade, I decided to run away. Young me was bad at survival. The only things I packed to take with me were books. In my mind books were all I needed to survive. Books are Life.
  • 1st Grade "Welcome Letter"

In the summer before my 1st grade year at Van Buren I received a letter from my future teacher Mrs. DeSormeau. All it said was that she was excited to meet me(and everyone else) when the school year started. I remember that I kept reading it over and over, and probably had the smuggest grin on my face while reading it. I still have the letter too.
  • 1st Grade "Construction"

During my First grade year an addition was being added to the school. Our class had a window that faced the construction. My teacher had us write a journal about it every so often.
  • 2nd Grade " Why I cant read out loud"

2nd Grade " Why I cant read out loud"
We had quiet reading time a lot during my second grade year. The only problem was that some kids could not read in there heads. At the time I was one of those kids. So during reading times I had to sit at my desk holding this Pvc piping made to look like a phone. You were required to hold it to your ear while you read until you stopped reading out loud. It got annoying fast, and I have been trying to avoid reading out loud since.
  • 2nd Grade "Johnny Appleseed"

The first play I remember reading was Johnny Appleseed. After we read it we had to put on the play for the rest of the classes in the pod, which was three other classes. I don't think I had a part in the play, but I did make decorations, and the story behind them is why I remember that we did the play.
  • 2nd Grade "Winter Play"

We always had these school wide plays/ music things. For some reason I wanted to have an actual part in one, with lines and stuff. So in the Winter play I got a part with maybe three lines, my character did not even have a name, but I had lines, and from what I remember everything went well.
  • 2nd Grade "Cursive"

Second grade was the first and only grade that taught cursive in my elementary school. I wish more time was put into teaching it in schools.
  • 3rd Grade "Storytime"

Third Grade was a great year. Mostly because I had one of the coolest teachers ever, Mr. Baker. Before then I had only thought of books as being happy stories, and he changed everything the day he began reading the story "Where the Red Fern Grows". There were 18 other students in his class, but he would have all of us sit in a group at the front of the classroom while he read to us. After we finished reading the story he let us watch the movie in class so that was cool.
  • "Paint the Wind" and "Dogs"

    "Paint the Wind" and "Dogs"
We were allowed to check books out from the school library, and everyone fought to check out this book that was full of information about different dog breeds. I never was able to get it, but I did check out the book Paint the Wind by Pam Munoz Ryan constantly. I even checked it out from the Hedberg a few times.
  • Book Competition

    Book Competition
I'm not sure exactly when this happened, but we had this big competition thing in elementary school where we had to read books in our free time and log the hours. We got tickets to spend depending on how long we read for. A few people wanted this really cool stuffed zebra thing, and when I finally got enough tickets I definitely got it, I felt bad about taking it, but I wanted it and read a lot to get it.
  • 5th grade "Celebrity Letter"

My fifth grade teacher decided to play with the emotions of a bunch of 10 year old children. He made us write letters to our favorite celebrities, and he actually sent them out. I wrote my letter to Britney Spears, and big shocker I never got a response. Some of the other kids in my class did though, they even received items from the people they wrote to. I am still jealous.
  • 5th grade "Band"

In fifth grade I learned how to read sheet music while in band class. I learned how to do it, and quit doing it in the span of the school year. I was not getting on stage to play a flute for people.
  • 7th Grade "German"

7th Grade year everyone had to take a foreign language class. I chose to take German, mainly because most of my family is of German origin, but I also really didn't want to take Spanish. The more my mom said Spanish will get you better jobs the more I refused to take it. I spent 7th and 8th grade studying German. I would have continued, but they removed it from schools, and I didn't make the list to continue.
  • 7th Grade "Poetry"

Poetry was never really my thing, I like the Where the Sidewalk ends book, but I didn't like writing poetry. In 7th grade we had a whole unit about it. I ended up writing Poems about random stuff like Kangaroos with shoes and other stuff. Poetry was a no no.
  • 8th Grade " Walker's class"

    8th Grade " Walker's class"
The class where I was assigned to read a book I actually liked. We had to read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I loved it. I had never heard of Third Person Omniscient as a point of view before, and after reading it I really wanted to learn how to write like that. It was one of the first things that made me love writing short stories. I actually bought the book a few years ago, and I still love it.
  • Freshman Year "Spanish"

They stopped offering German in the High School. Freshman year I had to change languages. I began my path down the road of Spanish. Spanish one was easy, and I spent most of my time reading books about the Greeks gods and Mythology. Now that I look back on it that was a terrible Idea. Because I ended up dreading going to Spanish class for the next two years. The teachers were great and I loved talking to them, but I was never really interested in learning Spanish.
  • Sophomore year "Biography"

    Sophomore year "Biography"
I took a History class with Conway at Parker. We had a student teacher during that semester, and for our final we had to write a biography about a historical figure. It didn't matter who, but it had to be a page long. Wars always interested me, so I chose to write about Adolf Hitler. I spent a few days researching and learning about Hitler for this exam. When the time came I wrote a two page Biography about him, and I got the best yearbook entry ever for it. He said he was happy and disturbed.
  • Olson's Class

One of the High School years I took some sort of Science class with Mrs. Olson. I love Science, but not as much as I loved to read. So One day in the middle of a sentence she called me out for reading a book in her class instead of listening to whatever she was saying. Teachers had never called me out for reading a book in class, but I still read books in class. She meant well, but it didn't help.
  • Sci-fi and Fantasy

I took Sci-fi fantasy my senior year of high school. This class made me love so many books. Some of my favorites from that class are Days Gone Bad, Brave New World, and one that I got to choose from the teacher's office Dragon Wing, which is book one of The Death Gate Cycle series. I actually bought the entire series after doing a project on book one.
  • Creative Writing

This was probably one of my favorite classes ever. Unfortunately my teacher had us do most of our work on computers, or we had to turn in any copies we had, so I don't have many of my old stories. I have always come up with random stories in my head, and I would really love to get back to writing sometime, because it is something that I really enjoy.
  • Callison's English 12 class

Senior English was my main "senior-slide" class. She helped me out big time. So I wrote her a Thank you card( she taught us how) for how much she helped me during the year. She told me that she hung it on her fridge because she loved it. (I cried) She also introduced me to two good books. Catcher in the Rye, and The Kite Runner. Both books were really good, and I would love to read them again. But seriously Callison kept me from failing senior year, and I appreciate the hell out of that.
  • Extra little thing

While doing this assignment I was watching The Land Before time, and I could probably recite parts of it word by word.
I could definitely recite Jurassic Park though. I love that Movie.
