1990 -1999

  • Adobe Photoshop

    Brothers Thomas and John Knoll created Adobe Photoshop out of necessity. The lack of photo editing software available online pushed them to create their own. Coding began in the 80s but finalized in the 90s they released Photoshop 1.0 with the financial support of Adobe.
  • Text Messaging

    In 1992 the first text message was sent from Neil Papworth to Richard Jarvis and it said “Merry Christmas”. Phones at this time didn’t not have text messaging functions so this would be the first of it kind and the foundation to future text messaging services.
  • Sony Playstation

    The Playstation gaming console by Sony was ahead of its competitors. The gaming console used better graphics and targeted a wider audience than other gaming systems. Introducing CD-rom technology to game allowed for more realistic graphics and better user interfacing.
  • DVD’s

    The DVD (Digital Video Disc) was created in 1995, and released in the US in 1997. Video corporations agreed to us a common format disc to distribute large format files. They were read-only formats which meant you weren’t able to rewrite, edit, or manipulate. This technology later became more popular than it predecessor the VHS.
  • Google

    Developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1997 after the success of their previous search engine ‘Backrub’ they registered Google.com as a domain. Sold to Andy Bechtolsheim for $100,000 and is now the most popular search engine platform.
