  • Mt Saint Helen's Eruption

    On May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helen became known as the largest and most destructive volcanic eruption in U.S. history. The lateral blast stripped trees from most hill slopes within 6 miles of the volcano and leveled all vegetation as far as 12 miles away. This devastating eruption killed 57 people, and thousands of animals.
  • 1980 U.S. Presidential Election

    On November 4, 1980 the U.S. presidential election was held. Republican Ronald Reagan defeated incumbent Democratic President Jimmy Carter. Reagan won just over 50 percent of the vote, while Carter captured 41 percent of votes. Reagan at the age of 69 years old became the oldest president re-elect in the country's history.
  • 1988 U.S. Presidential Election

    The 1998 United States presidential election was the 51st quadrennial United States presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 8th, 1988. Incumbent Vice President George W. H Bush , the Republican nominee, defeated Democratic Governor Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts.
  • Bill Clinton is elected President

    Bill Clinton was elected President in 1992 presidential election. He defeated incumbent Republican President George H. W Bush and independent businessman Ross Perot. At 46 years old he became the third youngest president the United States. He took office at the end of the Cold War, and the first president to be born in the Baby Boomer generation.
  • Oklahoma City Bombing

    On April 9th, 1995 there was a terrorist attack on the Alfred. P Murray Federal Building in Oklahoma City. A total of 168 people were killed including 19 children, and more than 500 were injured. The bombing remained known as the deadliest terrorist assault on U.S. soil until the attacks on 9/11.
  • FOX signs on

    Fox News is the first major network to host nightly programming launched by Rupert Murdoch in 1996. The network began with 79 affiliate stations and reached 80 percent of homes in the United States. Even in todays world, Fox News marks its 20 consecutive year as the number one cable news network in total day and primetime.
  • Columbine Massacre

    The Columbine Massacre took place on April 20th, 1999 at Columbine High school near Littleton, Colorado.The casualties left 15 students dead, including the two students responsible for the attack on the school. Erik Harris at the age of eighteen, and Dylan Klebold at the age seventeen were responsible for the shooting.
  • 9/11

    The World Trade Center was a 16 acre commercial complex in lower Manhattan that contained seven buildings , a large plaza, and a underground shopping mall. The center piece of the complex were the Twin Towers known as the tallest buildings in New York. On September 11, 2001, The entire complex was destroyed in terrorist attack known as the 9/11. This attack left nearly 3,000 people dead in New York City, Washing D.C, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
