    Democrat Jimmy Carter is defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan. It was a big victory for Reagan!

    Chrysler had the first min-van roll off the assembly line.

  • Presidential Election 1984

    Reagan wins again defeating Democratic candidate, Walter Mondale. This was also the first election where a woman was on the ticket, Geraldine Ferraro was Mondale’s VP candidate.

  • Space Shuttle Challenger Explodes

    73 seconds after lift-off the shuttle burst into flames and they were all killed. The disaster was caused by defective “O ring” seal.

  • Presidential Election 1988

    Republican George Bush defeats Democrat Michael Dukakis.

  • Persian Gulf War/ Operation Desert Storm

    President George W. Bush declares the start of this military operation to get the Iraqi forces out of Kuwait.

  • Presidential Election 1992

    President George Bush lost to Democrat Bill Clinton. There was also another,Ross Perot, who made a good running as a third party candidate.

  • Presidential Election 1996

    Democrat Bill Clinton was elected to a second term defeating Republican Bob Dole.

  • Presidential Election 2000

    George W. Bush ran against Democrat Al Gore in a memorable election. Gore won the popular vote, but did not have enough Electoral College votes needed to win. The state of Florida had to have a recount, and the US Supreme Court later declared Bush the winner.
