    The contraceptive pill is approved by the FDA and released to the public. Created to give women the choice of having children or not
  • First TV Debate

    The debate against Kennedy and Nixon. Candidates used the television to campaign, a technique which Kennedy perfected.
  • The Freedom Riders

    The first freedom riders consisted of 7 blacks and 6 whites who boarded a bus to Birmingham and Anniston, Alabama to enforce the new bus terminal law that stated bus terminals could not be segregated. The buses were attacked and the people beaten.
  • "Man on the Moon" Speech

    JFK delivers his "50 years from now" speech
  • Start of the Berlin Wall Construction

    Began constructing the Berlin wall, which completely cut off west Berlin from east Germany
  • "I Have A Dream" Speech

    Marks the significant event where Martin Luther King Jr. makes his famous revolutionary speech for equality
  • The March on Washington

    A. Philip Randolph organized the event to march for jobs, public school intergration, and for the passage of the fair employment act, and an omniibus civil rights act. 250,000 people show up at the steps of the Lincoln memorial.

  • Landing on the Moon
