    The cold war was a nuclear arms race between the Allies and USSR, after WWII. It was mainly between the USA and USSR but later on the French came in. There were enough nuclear weapons stockpiled to blow up the earth a few times over.

    Rock and Roll was the “rebellious” music, a way for the kids to get away from their parents’ generation. The kids loved rock and roll, where the parents wanted nothing to do with it and wanted their kids to listen to better music. One man who really had the parents go mad, and the kids go crazy, was Elvis.

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    Fidel Castro comes to power in Cuba, and Cuba becomes allies with USSR. Castro announces that Cuba would start WWIII if the US directly attacks Cuba. CIA director John McCone sends a message thinking that the USSR has ballistic missiles in Cuba. October 14th 1962 a U-2 flying over Cuba discovers missiles. Photos gathered by the flight shows evidence that USSR have missiles in Cuba. Letters go back and forth, and October 28 the missiles are out of Cuba.

    This was built to separate the capitalism half, and the communist half of Germany’s capital Berlin. The Berlin Wall also separated East Germany and West Germany.

    November 22nd 1963 president John F. Kennedy was assassinated, unknown who did it, but there are many different theories. John was in Dallas Texas while in an open top convertible. This made an end to presidents driving unprotected.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader who protested non-violently .This event is also mysteriously vague at who had killed him. All we know is that while out on a balcony in front of his motel room, he was shot by a .30 caliber sniper rifle.

    The spaceflight Apollo 11 was the flight that landed the first humans on the moon. Before this there was a “space race” between the USA and USSR. The Americans won this race by putting the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong. He stepped on the moon on July 21st 1969 at 2:56am.

    President Nixon is running for reelection. Fearing he may lose he sends burglars in to the Watergate Hotel to steal information. They are caught soon a case is being built against Nixon. Fearing impeachment he resigns.

Protests have been mounting and its getting ugly. When the troops return home they don’t get any support or celebration.     The first IBM PC was introduced. This computer was designed for professionals scientists and problem solvers. The price came in at $20,000 dollars. Although it was very rudimentary and had very limited capabilities it market the beginning of the computer age.

    Professor Alec Jefferson discovered that every human being has a different string of DNA (except twins). DNA was first used in a court case the next year. Now DNA is a important part of modern law enforcement.

    Coke was starting to lose the battle against Pepsi. In effort to regain control of the market Coke creates a new recipe. Research says people will like it more and profits will rise. Instead people were never unhappy. People filed lawsuits, people bought "old" coke from overseas countries were new coke hadn't been released yet, and people pored bottles of new coke into the streets. Three months later coke released "old" coke under the name Coca-Cola Classic.

    The Soviet Union had a wall built to keep people from leaving their side of Germany. Citizens of Germany with US support go to the wall with hammers and chisels and piece by piece take it down. This marked the beginning of the end of the Soviet Union.

    The Hubble space telescope was carried by a space shuttle in 1990, and is still in space today taking pictures. It cost 2.5 billion dollars to send up into space. It orbits Earth at 4.66 miles per hour.

    At first this operation was called “OPERATION DESERT SHEID” because the US wanted to shield nearby countries from Iraqi forces. President Bush wanted “immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of all Iraqi forces from Kuwait," and the "restoration of Kuwait's legitimate government to replace the puppet regime installed by Iraq."
