The main reason the United States got involved in the war was because of the spread of communism but other factors played in as well such as foreign policy and economic interests. America was fearful that the spread of communism would suffocate South Vietnam, so they went out of their way to assist them to help the South Vietnamese government.

President Kennedy served during the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He played a key role in the Cuban Missile Crisis by placing a naval blockade around Cuba, preventing the Soviets from bringing any more materials in. With the leadership of Mr. Kennedy, the US and the Soviets were able to come to peace with one another.

    Mr. Johnson served as the 36th president of the United States who had previously served as the 37th vice president for 1,036 days when he succeeded to the presidency. President Johnson is responsible for the Great Society which was a set of domestic programs that possessed the goals of completely eliminating poverty and racial injustice.

    Mr. Nixon served as the 37th president of the United States and originally served as the 36th vice president. He resigned from his presidency because he was close to being impeached, being the only U.S president to do so. During his presidency, he was known for a start for diplomacy with China, a gradual closing of the Vietnam War, domestic acts (such as OSHA and Environmental Protection), and an age of peace with the Soviet Union (communist Russia).

Ford led the United States in one of its worst economies since the Great Depression, with growing inflation and a recession during his tenure. One of the most controversial acts of President Ford is when he granted a presidential pardon to Richard M. Nixon for his involvement in the Watergate scandal.
