Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery Bus Boycott happened in December of 1955 and was apart of the Civil rights movement. African Americans refused to ride the bus anywhere during this time and this boycott also led to the emergence of Martin Luther King Jr. -
Sputnik is Launched
Sputnik 1 was launched in October of 57' and was a major step in the "Space Race" for the USSR. At the time the US and USSR were involved in the "Space Race" to put the first man on the moon. -
John F. Kennedy Elected
John F. Kennedy won the 1960 presidential election over Richard Nixon. Kennedy won the election partially because of his boyish looks and sadly he was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963. -
Berlin Crisis
The Berlin Crisis was in 1961 and was the last major conflict in Eastern Europe. This Crisis was over the occupation of Berlin between the USSR and the US. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was the biggest US crisis since the end of WWII and lasted for 4 months. The USSR had shipped nuclear weapons to Cuba to target the US in the case of a nuclear war, and the US felt severely threatened. -
JFK Assasination
President john F. Kennedy was assassinated in November of 1963. Vice President Johnson was immediately inaugurated as president after JFK was pronounced dead. -
Richard Nixon Elected
President Richard Nixon was elected in 1968 and was inaugurated in 1969. Nixon was eventually removed from office after the Watergate scandal came out. -
Pentagon Papers Leaked
The Pentagon Papers were a set of reports that contained highly confidential information in regards tot eh Vietnam War. After their release in 1971 the public knew it had been lied to by presidents in regards to the war. -
Vietnam Falls
Vietnam fell in 1975 and marked the end of a very controversial war with the US public split in their support. The Vietnam War was largely unpopular and the end result just made matters worse as the US failed.
