The Cuban Missile Crisis was a nuclear threat to the United States by Cuba with missiles sent by Russia. This was the closest that the United States and Russia came to Nuclear war. -
Martin Luther King Jr.-- "I Have a Dream."
MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech is the most recognizable speech to come out of the civil rights movement. It influenced the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and it continues to inspire people today. -
Lyndon Johnson Inaugurated (36th President)
With Kennedy assassinated earlier that day, Johnson was sworn in because he was the Vice President. His most well-known accomplishments were the Voting Act and Civil Rights Acts-- which led to the effective end of the Jim Crow laws. -
The Civil Rights Act
The Act outlawed discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. -
The Voting Rights Act
The Voting Rights Act ended discrimination at voting booths and prevented white supremacists from stopping Black Americans from voting. -
The Watergate Scandal
A group of former CIA members was found bugging phones and stealing documents. The Nixon Administration tried to cover up their involvement but, through the work of a couple of dedicated journalists, Nixon's involvement was undeniable and he resigned before his opponents had the opportunity to impeach him.
