    Allied soldiers invasion through the beaches of Normandy that began the invasion of Europe.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    American troops invade Okinawa.
  • Dead President

    President Roosevelt dies and vice president Harry S. Truman becomes president.
  • The fall of Berlin

    Germany surrenders in Reims, France. This ends WWII in Europe
  • Bombs Away!

    President Truman gives the green light to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Another atomic bomb is dropped on Nagasaki, Japan three days later. The emperor of Japan surrenders.

    Passed by U.S. congress, this action gives $400 million to Turkey and Greece to help them fight communism.
  • Soviet Blockades

    The USSR starts a blockade in the Allied sectors of Berlin.

    A treaty formed between United States, Canada, and ten other Western European nations and named the North American Treaty Organization.
