  • 18th amendment passed

    This amendment made it illegal to make, purchase, or sell alcohol. This amendment led to people secretly making alcohol in speak easies.

  • Warren G. Harding wins election

    Would go down as one of the most corrupt presidency's , with the teapot dome scandal

  • Emergency immigration act is passed

    this was the first time a numerical limit on immigrants was set. This act prompted the visa process that started in 1924, which we still use today.

  • Harding died of heart attack

    Calvin Coolidge, the vice president, becomes the 30th president of the United States

  • Model-T's are produced

    Henry Ford came up with a car that almost everyone, even factory workers could afford, and they were coming off the assembly line every ten seconds. Most were purchased on credit.

  • Herbert Hoover wins presidency

    Hoover won on the promise to return to normalcy

  • Stockmarkets crashed

    Black Tuesday, Stockmarkets crashed, $10 billion dissappeared in a matter of hours, four fifths of Rockefeller's fortune vanished

  • Scottsboro nine

    Nine Black males were accused of raping 2 white women, although there was clear evidence that this did not happen, and one of the women admitted it never happened, there was still prejudice in the south and most of these boys were sentenced to death

  • severe droughts

    Hitting from Texas all the way through the Dakotas, this created the dust bowl which were dangerous and really hurt the agriculture industry of America

  • Roosevelt wins the presidential election

    Hoover did not stand a chance, Roosevelt already had may programs to help unemployment, this is what won him the election

  • Emergency Banking act

    Banks were closed for a few days, and when they reopened they had new policies put in place by Roosevelt

  • New deal signed

    Plan made by Roosevelt to fix the banks, unemployment and other factors surrounding the Great Depression

  • 2nd new deal signed

    This new deal was much more aggressive to fix the Great Depression

  • Social security act was passed

    Social security, a check given to people who have become retired or otherwise cannot work

  • Roosevelt is reelected

    Roosevelt is reelected as the president

    This act was passed and it set up minimum wage. At that time it was $0.25 an hour.

  • WW2 began for Europe, US had not yet joined

    Germany invaded Poland, so Britain and France declared war on Germany.

  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Pearl Harbor was unsuspecting and they had no defense and never knew it was coming.

  • Congress declared war on Japan

    War was declared as a response from Pearl Harbor
