    19th Amendment
    Before the 1920's women were not aloud to vote in elections of any sort. Like the African Americans who had just recently gained their right to vote they fought for it for a long while. Protests and using their voices really helped them get what they want.

    Sacco-Vanzetti Trial
    This was a case that was very controversial with how it came about. Italian immigrants Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were accused of murder and executed with a lot of evidence. This case shows how we felt about immigration and how easy we were to accuse them of everything.

    Congress passes the Fordney-McCumber Tariff, sharply raising tariff duties to protect the American market for American manufactures. The tariff boosts the domestic economy but it also worsens the crisis for struggling European economies like Germany's. Which helped to enable Adolf Hitler's rise to power there on a platform of economic grievance.

    Germany was burdened by reparations payments imposed by Treaty of Versailles and suffers hyperinflation.They went into a great economic depression which Hitler ended up feeding on. At the time one American dollar was worth 7,000 German marks

    President Warren G. Harding dies of stroke in a San Francisco hotel room. He thought he was just coming down off of having food poisoning many thought his wife had posioned him.Vice President Calvin Coolidge becomes the new president.

    Scopes violates ban on the teaching of evolution
    John Scopes a Tennessee schoolteacher is arrested for teaching evolution which was a violation of new state law banning the teaching of Darwin. The "Scopes Monkey Trial," made attorney Clarence Darrow against presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan in a debate of modernity versus fundamentalism.Scopes is eventually found guilty.

    40,000 Ku Klux Klansmen march on Washington, their white hoods filling Pennsylvania Avenue. This was a big thing for freedom of speech and how much it expanded. This was not stopped because it was seen as a speech issue that they couldn't just deny someone because they disagreed.

    Charles Lindbergh completes the first solo transatlantic flight.Landing his plane in Paris 33 hours after departing from New York. Lindbergh becomes a national hero.

    Baseball star Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees hits his 60th home run of the season. Breaking his own record of 59. Ruth's record will stand for more than 30 years.

    The Jazz Singer Premieres
    This was the first talking movie to premiere on the big screen. Before this movies were silent and had a live band to create moods for scenes. This did very good better than expected since they didn't know how people would react to talking movies.
