1920's Timeline

  • Prohibition Begins

    With the employment of the 18th amendment the selling, consumotion, and manufacturing of alcoholic drinks. The was a big moment in U.S history as it showed what power the federal government had over the states.
  • 19th Amendment

    The 19th amendment was the amendment that gave women the right to vote. This was a very important event is U.S history as it allowed more people to vote and have an effect on who was in government.
  • KDKA

    KDKA was the first ever commercial radio station. This event was very important as it gave rise to one of the larger forms of mass media, radio.
  • Emergency Quota Act

    The Emergency Quota Act gave allowed for a quota system to be put in place for immigration. This was done through a formula based on the 1910 census. This was a large change in immigration laws at the time and changed the way immigration worked in America.
  • Boll Weevil

    In the 20's the cotton eating insect called the Boll Weevil devstated over 85% of the southern US's cotton fields. This led to industry and business being devasted by the loss of so much cotton, and left cotton prices rising.
  • Stock Market Rise

    In 1924 the stock market was becoming increasingly high and profitable for people. This event was well noted and important as it was somewhat of a calm before a storm. That storm would not soon after 24 become the Great Depression.
  • National Origins Act

    This act was a replacer for the Emergency Quota act created in prior years. The importance here is that instead of raise or elminating the 3% quota, it lowered it to 2%.
  • Scopes Trials

    The Scopes Trials were a very important event in U.S history. This debate is what got the government thinking about how to solve the issue of Fundmentalism vs. Evolution, and is what leads to what we learn in school today.
  • KKK Washington March

    This march on Washington was an important time for America. It was undeniable fact that showed American and it people that the Klan had reformed and were most likely planning to cause terror as they once did.
  • The Weary Blues

    The Weary Blues was a very important poem during the 20's as it was part of what would be known as the Harlem Renissance. This peom was one of the more well known emotional peices of work produced in that time.
  • Charles Lindbergh Flies solo Across Atlantic

    When Charles Lindbergh made his flight over the atlantic is was an important moment in aviation for the reason that it showed that what he did was possible.
  • Sacco and Vanzetti Executed

    Sacco and Vanzetti were accused of 1st degree murder and taking part in an armed robery. Conflicting evdience caused the media to get invovlved, and their eventual execution caused an uproar among people.
  • Herbert Hoover Elected

    When Hoover was elected he became one of the presidents of that time that was pro-conservation, but he is more known/important for being elected 8 months before the Great Depression which he tried to stop from happening once Wall Street crashed.
