    World War 1 was ignited after the association of Archduke Franz Ferdinand- hire to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Austro-Hungary blamed the Serbian government for the attack. Germany pledged its allegiance to Austro-Hungary who then declared war on Serbia, who was in allegiance with Russia. This cause a domino effect in Europe, with Russia, Belgium, France, great Britain and Serbia fighting against Austria- Hungary and Germany.

    After a failed attack in the Flanders region between France and Belgium, German troops were left exhausted and out of reserves. Germany was forces to accept an armistices, which ended the war. The allies powers had won the war and wanted revenge for the losses that they had suffered. Five million allied troops had died and another13 million had been wounded. The allied blamed the central powers for the starting of the war, especially Germany.

    After 5 months of negotiations between the allies with no participating of Germany, German national assembly government signed the treaty of Versailles. At first Germany refused to sign the treaty due to the harshness. The penalties imposed on Germany were restrictions on the size of its military forces, reparation payment to the allies and loss of territory.

In 1920, the gloom of war world 1 as left behind and wealth, consumer society and jazz music prevailed. The roaring twenties brought about drastic change for women. The creation of the flappers who were young women with bobbed hair and short skirts who drank, smoked and said what they wanted stated a trend of sexually freedom for women.

The shooting of Dr Martin Luther king sent shockwave throughout the world and caused rioting in more than 100 cities in America including burning and lotting.
