This landmark Supreme Court case ruled that racial segregation in public schools is unconstitutional, and it effectively turned over the “separate but equal,“ doctrine and made a pivotal move in the civil rights movement. It determined that segregated schools violated the 14th amendment and in that segregated facilities were inherently unequal.

In hopes of winning Texas during his next election, President Kennedy made his way throughout the state delivering speeches in hopes of bringing Democratic citizens together. As he made his way through Dallas, Lee Harvey Oswald successfully, assassinated the president and was arrested less than an hour later. Lyndon B. Johnson would take the oath of office in a crowded Air Force One as they flew back to Washington DC where President Kennedy would die only 30 minutes later.

The civil rights act is a piece of legislation that prohibited discrimination based on religion, sex, race, or national origin in any public setting, including employment. It was most significant during this time for African-Americans and other non-white citizens. While it is not a complete fix, in most areas of American life, it had a significant impact on people of color, specifically African Americans.

This was due to the fact that President Dwight Eisenhower wanted to prevent the spread of communism in Southeast Asia and limit the Soviet power. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the, if not the leader of the civil rights movement in North America. He stood up for what he believed in, which was that all human lives are equal and everyone should be treated as such. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis Tennessee, which then caused major outbreaks of racial violence across the country. Although he had been assassinated, he had survived one other assassination attempt 10 years before he passed.

Sandra Day O’Connor was the very first woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court. She was appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1981 and served until 2006. The presidential election between Bush and Gore is one of the tightest elections the US has ever seen. It was by such a close margin that the state law required a recount, resulting in a month-long series of legal battles. President Bush ended up winning Florida by a margin of 0.009%,which in turn led to him winning the election 5 to 4.
