Klu Klux Klan

1800

Forest talks about how his ancestors were apart of the KKK. Forrest was waiting for a bus to go see Jenny when he was talking to an African American lady about his past family members being in the KKK. The movie did not show that the African American had a reaction.

Vietnam War

1955

Forest is in the Vietnam war from 1955-1975. The Vietnam war was not a good war for America. Hippies back in the US protested against the war.

Elvis Becomes King of Rock and Roll

Jan 1, 1956

Forest's mom has a bed and breakfast, and Elvis Presley was one of her guest. Forest was showing Elvis his dance moves. Forest turns on the TV and sees Elvis on TV using his dance moves.

Desegregation

Jan 1, 1963

Forest is seen picking up a book for an African American girl who is allowed to attend college. African Americans were seen walking into college in a single file line. White people and cops were surrounding the students as they walked in.

Martin Luther King

Forrest talks about how MLK became a civil rights activist. Forrest also talks about MLK's speech, "I have a dream". Forrest also talks about how brave MLK was for supporting other African Americans rights.

Kennedy Assassination

Forrest got to meet president Kennedy. Later Forrest talks about how he was tragically assassinated. JFK was assassinated in 1963, Forrest was watching the news on TV.

Black Panthers

1966

Jenny takes Forest to a Black Panther meeting. Black Panthers were usually African Americans (not all) but most. They protested in violent ways against the Vietnam war and segregation. Forrest is seen at the end of the movie getting into a fight with one of the Panthers.

Kennedy's Brother Assassination

Forrest feels bad for JFK's little brother because he was assassinated as well. Robert F. Kennedy was shot years later in 1968. Forrest said, "it must be hard being the brother of a president".

Watergate Scandal

1970

Forrest calls in to officials saying that people with flash lights were keeping him awake at night. This was called the Watergate Scandal in 1970. Nixon later resigned for having people break in.

Hurricane Carmen

Sep 10, 1974

Hurricane Carmen was the reason why Forest wasn't doing as good as he was after the hurricane in the shrimp business. Hurricane Carmen had 8 total deaths. It was formed on August 28th and hit on September 10th.

HIV/AIDS Break

There was a major break with HIV/AIDS. When Jenny said she was sick and had a virus this is what she was referring to. It has been said that in a gay magazine, gays were being treated in intensive care, it was so bad.

Attempted Assassination

Mar 30, 1981

Someone tried to shoot president Ronald Reagan. Three others were wounded during the attempt to assassinate Reagan. This all happened as Reagan and his team were leaving a hotel in D.C.
